Installing a wallbox at home
Are you thinking about installing a wallbox at home for your electric car?
A home wallbox is not only convenient and efficient, but also an investment in safety and peace of mind. To ensure a solution that’s smart, safe and suited to your needs, a few important aspects need to be considered before the actual installation. Below we’ve put together a guide to help you prepare, enabling you to make an informed decision and best utilise your new wallbox. Also keep in mind that you must use a qualified electrician to install a wallbox at home.
Focus on safety
When choosing a wallbox, it’s important that it meets strict safety standards and offers the right protection. Throughout our long and extensive history in the electrical industry, safety has always been a key priority in all that we do. This is why GARO Entity is equipped with all necessary protection from the outset and, what’s more, is also third-party tested and certified for compliance with the international charging standard. This makes it completely unique in the market and guarantees the safety of you, your car and your home.
Important protection to consider:
Why a wallbox and not a normal power outlet?
A home wallbox enables you to charge your electric vehicle more safely as well as faster. There are a number of reasons why you should charge your electric car with a dedicated electric vehicle charger rather than a normal power outlet. It’s faster, safer and more secure, and Sweden’s National Electrical Safety Board advises against using normal wall sockets for charging on a regular basis.
Check your existing electrical system
To make things easier for both you and your electrician, before installing your new wallbox, it can be a good idea to check your existing electrical system to see whether any modifications or new electrical components are required. Get a qualified electrician to check your electrical system to see whether it needs any upgrades. For example, if your main fuse is too small, you may need to upgrade it to handle the power output of your new wallbox.
Select the connection type for a smart wallbox
A connected wallbox gives you access to a number of functions for easier, smarter and more efficient charging. We know that every home is different, which is why we offer several connection types: Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Mesh and 4G. Consider which option best matches your needs and home.
Choose a suitable place for your wallbox
When installing a home wallbox, placement is important in terms of both convenience and safety. Often, the best place is close to where you usually park your car as this makes for more convenient charging. Ensure that the wallbox can be supplied with sufficient power or that you can route new cables if necessary. A stable and secure power supply is essential to optimise the charging process.
If the wallbox is to be connected via Wi-Fi, place it near your router to ensure a stable network connection. Also be sure to choose a place from where the charging cable can easily reach your car. GARO’s wallboxes for home use always come with a fixed cable for a more convenient charging experience.
Grants and subsidies
In Sweden, you can get a tax rebate for installing a wallbox via the so-called green technology tax deduction. This covers up to fifty percent of the installation cost, which can save you a great deal of money.
